In one year, Matic grew its revenue 15x, cut after-hours charting 83% for physicians, earned a 100% would-buy-again rating from KLAS Research, and evolved from a single ambient scribe into an AI-native ecosystem built around patients, practices and physicians across healthcare.
Most healthcare technology asks physicians to adapt to it. Dr. Alex Sheppert, DO, PhD, MBA refused to. While still in medical school, Dr. Sheppert built one of the world’s first ambient scribes, not to chase a market, but to solve his own problem: the hours of documentation standing between him and the patients he’d gone into medicine to treat.
Calvin Carter came from a different world entirely. Nearly two decades building award-winning consumer apps at Bottle Rocket, for brands like Chick-fil-A, NPR, and Southwest Airlines, work honored four times in Apple’s App Store Hall of Fame. When Carter stepped in as CEO, he didn’t commercialize what Dr. Sheppert built. He rebuilt the company around it.
A physician-programmer. A design mind. One belief: start with the physician, and everyone else wins.
In November 2025, Scribematic became Matic, evolving from a single tool into a connected ecosystem spanning the entire care-to-collection lifecycle. Every piece carries forward and builds on itself: patient history informs documentation, documentation informs coding, evidence informs decisions. One connected system, not six disconnected tabs. The market noticed fast. KLAS Research named Scribematic an Emerging Company in AI-driven medical documentation. Catalyst Health Group, a physician-led network of primary care physicians across Texas, deployed Matic at scale. UrgentIQ integrated it to power real-time documentation.
In June 2026, Matic exited stealth with the New Px: a reimagined Patient, Practice, and Physician experience, engineered by the same founding pair. “Human-centered design is at our core. We built, deployed, and tested solutions until we were certain we served all three at once.” — Calvin Carter, CEO of Matic Weeks later, timed to the country’s 250th birthday, Matic and Catalyst issued a joint Declaration of Independence for Primary Care, the first public results of Matic deployed at scale inside a real physician network:
One physician cleared a 17-chart backlog to fully closed documentation by lunchtime, the day after adopting Matic. “Matic gives me back time and mental space. It reduces the cognitive load and lets me practice medicine the way I intended.” — Dr. Doug Fullington, Catalyst Physician Group
Patients get the best care. Practices get the best economics. Physicians fall back in love with practicing medicine. That’s not a mission statement. It’s what happened, at scale, inside a real physician network, in one year.
