How Matic Cut Physician After-Hours Work Effectively

D Magazine has published an in-depth feature on Matic and our partnership with Catalyst Health Group, an independent primary care organization in Texas with more than 1,000 primary care providers seeing over 1.5 million patients annually. Written by Associate Editor Layten Praytor, the article covers how Matic went from concept to a physician-tested AI platform, and the measurable impact it’s had on the doctors using it.

Built With Physicians, Not For Them

Calvin Carter, Matic’s CEO, spent over a decade building digital products for major national brands before moving into healthcare. Alongside Founder and CTO, Dr. Alexander Sheppert DO, PhD, MBA, a rare pairing of deep clinical expertise and product experience, he set out to reduce physician burnout with a platform shaped by physicians from day one.

Catalyst Health Group opened its clinics to Matic’s team, giving them direct access to observe real physicians, coders, compliance specialists, and revenue cycle experts at work. That firsthand view of day-to-day clinical life shaped how the product was built. Catalyst CEO Dr. Christopher Crow said he’d rather see a tool shaped by the people who’d use it than hand his physicians something built elsewhere.

The Problem

Nearly 40% of physicians report symptoms of burnout. A significant share spend more than eight hours a week on electronic health records outside normal working hours, commonly called “pajama time.” Projections point to a U.S. shortage of tens of thousands of physicians within a decade.

Matic’s platform works before, during, and after the patient visit: summarizing patient history, surfacing relevant diagnoses, and preparing documentation ahead of the appointment, then drafting clinical notes, recommending coding, and automating administrative follow-up afterward.

The Results

Two months into testing, Catalyst physicians cut out-of-clinic work by 25% to 55%. Some increased daily patient volume while handling fewer administrative tasks.

The article also details specific outcomes: a physician who no longer arrives 90 minutes early to prepare, another who used to lose entire Sunday mornings to charting and now finishes in minutes, and physicians reconsidering retirement or returning to practice as the administrative load eased.

Why This Matters for Matic

This is the outcome we built Matic for: physicians practicing at the top of their license, spending more time with patients, with less time lost to paperwork. Catalyst Health Group’s role as a development partner, not just an early customer, was central to getting the platform right before a broader launch.

Thank you to D Magazine and Layten Praytor for covering this, and to the physicians at Catalyst who opened their clinics and gave feedback that shaped the product.
